The companys experience has grown over the years and with it, there has been a development in growth of their business network, whereby, the company supplies its products to hundreds of hospitals across Canada that has seen it open branches in different locations across the country. Background of Management/ Problem Statement Over the years, the business has been under the stewardship of the founders, who are mainly members of the same family. Being a small company only serving local hospitals, the company has experienced nothing but success among its workforce. However, with the expansion of company and the ever-changing technologies in medical field continues creating need for change not only in the products the company supplies but also in staff and management approaches. These changes have led the company to promote some of their existing staff or hire new ones to meet the demands in the changing market. Therefore, quality managers are vital to the human resources department especially towards activities of training needs analysis, training, hiring of skilled staff. Employees Employees are an important part of implementing change within an organization, since the changes to be implemented will mainly affect them directly. Therefore, as part of creating a strategic human resource plan, it will be important to seek what changes the employees would like to see, be it technological, managerial, work schedules, and other workplace related issues influencing productivity. Approaches to Solving the Human Resources Issues Labor Relations According to Noe et al (2006), worker labor relations are dedicated to endorsing operative fairness, and specialized associations between a corporation and its personnel. Through effective labor relations, the company will be able to solve various problems it is faced with including among others establishing awell-organizedfabrication of goods. At the same time, the labor relations will allow a determination of satisfactory terms and circumstances of service considering both the good of the proprietor, personnel, and as well as the society via agreements reached through negations. Labor relations also go a long way towards establishing mechanisms of communication within the organization. In addition, the practice establishes channels of consultation and collaboration to determine workplace matters at the industrial level through agreed harmony. The family company is faced with numerous disputes between its management and the employees, labor relations can be used to mitigate these disputes to aid in the settlement and future avoidance through negotiations and dispute settlement mechanisms. The process would go a long way towards the provision of social protection where it might be needed especially in areas of social security, child labor, safety, and health (Noe et al, 2006). Talent Management and Staff Development The organization has been in constant need of a human resource assistant to deal with growing workforce and ensure the needs and work schedules of the employees are in order. This objective could be attained through talent management in the company. According to McCauley and Wakefield (2006), capacity supervision is assignment critical procedure that sees to it that an organization has the quality and amount of individuals in place to meet their existing and impending business urgencies. In line with this staff development process, the company will cover all the key aspects of the employees life covering the selection process, the growth, succession, and the management of performances. The Family Medical Group Company can thus have talent management as part of their human resource strategic plan ensuring the human resource department always has a clear understanding of the organizations prevailing and future operational strategies. The organization will also from time to time be able to identify any gaps arising between the current talent and that required to attain business success. In addition, running a talent management plan will ensure the firm is accurate in hiring and promotions decisions it undertakes. Finally, the human resources team will easily  connect individual goals to corporate goals providing organizational expectations and offer feedback to aid manage performance (McCauley and Wakefield, 2006). Work Design/ Classification Organizations can employ the high relationship prevailing between employee satisfaction with the work environment, which includes the rules, technology in use, and the office design to attain organizational success. Where new employees join the company, design can be employed to ease transition to the new work environment for the new employee and enhance productivity. Under the work design, the firm should get rid of disruptions and offer its employees a comfortable environment that support their needs in the process transforming attitudes about work and increase output and efficiency (Enz and Siguaw, 2000). The companys revenues have been decreasing, for the human resources department to save this situation, it has to maximize the intellectual capital and to do this, it has to establish effective work processes, and through an environment, that supports it. According to do Enz and Siguaw(2000), where an efficient work environment has been created and the staffs are proud of it, then consequently job performances improve. In addition, work environments that are known to adopt work designs that are supportive of the way people need to work, it strengthens morale and promotes a positive attitude about their duties and enhances productivity. Performance Management This is a procedure of fashioning workplace setting where individuals can accomplish tasks to the best of their capacities. The process is a collaboration between the employer and employees making major interaction opportunity with the employees a learning occasion. Developing a performance management plan is vital to the human resources department of the firm since it contributes establishing an employee recruitment plan, allowing the firm to recruit potential employees in the process. Implementing a performance management plan will bring various advantages including creating job specification and it aligns the firms strategic organization and culture, offers an accurate picture of the different employees performances. The process will also make for collaborative process geared towards setting goals and review performances following a two-way communication channel between the firm and its staff. The plan will monitor and measure results and behaviors, including issuing feedback on the different tasks carried out with the firm. Where there are, training needs, the plan creates training and development opportunities, and most importantly, it identifies areas of poor performance and establishes plans to improve these areas (Den Hartog et al, 2004). Organization Development According to Cummings and Worley (2014), where organizational development is part of a strategic human resources the organization will benefit by further strengthening its leadership capabilities of the firms supervisory personnel. Organization Development will increase the organizations capacity to a well manage assortment and identify natural differences that exist at the workstation, the process will go a long way towards employees skills, create accountability, and offer resources that will enable the organization create long-term sustainable change. The process of organizational development will help reduce the staff turnover rate, work on the low staff morale reported by the managers, fight the prevailing inability to effectively communicate throughout the organization, and work on the disconnection between the supervision and the staff. In addition, organization development will play a part to train employees for career development, providing flexible learning options by encouraging employees to engage self-learning and engage in development activities,  and build trust between the staff and the leadership in the organization. The plan will also help the human resources department in matching the various available learning options to different learning styles (Cummings and Worley, 2014). Training Needs Analysis According to Brown (2002), operative training needs analysis is predominantly important in the modern day changing work environment as new machineries and elastic working performance are prevalent, that correspond to changes in the skills and abilities. Training needs analysis will enable the firm to station funds into the zones where they will underwrite to the expansion and enhancing drive among the employees. As well, the employees will need to be trained to bridge the existing skill gap and training needs analysis is important for an effective training program. Through training needs analysis, the organization will be able to channel its available resources to areas where they will be able to contribute to employee development in the process enhancing productivity at the workplace. Ensuring training needs analysis is part of the strategic human resource plan will ensure the organization priorities are put into consideration and economies of scale are attained. Additionally, the firm will have an opportunity to consider its future needs, and develop monitoring techniques to use within the organization. The investigation will help the organization to investigate unexpected problems and indicate where gaps exist within the organization. This part of the plan will aid in establishing the level of need, and come up with a plan to mitigate the need by considering the kind of training that will be most appropriate (Brown, 2002). Staff Acquisition The top management in the firm will negotiate with functional and department managers to identify and assign resources in line with the firms project organization structure. In addition, the plan will identify external sources and mechanisms to hire new project sources, and allow an approval of the project works. The upgrade of the management system will include alliancing with the vendor, in corroboration with the human resource management team. Nonetheless, the vendor will need to transfer his expertise to the staff to ensure the transition of the project transpires (Brown, 2002). Conclusion The strategic human resource plan will go a long way in helping the Family Medical Group of Companies archive its goals. The process will act as the link between the management of the organization and the overall strategic plan of the plan. The strategic plan will aid the organization in meeting their mission, help the organization assess the current human resource capacities, foresee the requirement of the organization, analyze gaps, and come up with strategies that support organization strategies. The Allegory of the Cave Essay -- Platos Republic

In Plato's Republic, the great philosopher describes what is needed to achieve a perfect society. He addresses several subjects still debated in today's society, such as justice, gender roles, and the proper form of education. He discusses these issues through his main character, Socrates. Socrates, another well-known philosopher for his time, happens upon a group of men, and what begins as a modest question, leads into a series of debates, metaphors, and allegories. Perhaps the most discussed allegory in today's popular culture is the Allegory of the Cave. Over the past decade, several movies have mimicked the fantasy, the most profitable being the Matrix Trilogy. But what makes this story so fascinating? Through it, Plato attempts to map a man's journey through education. The map used is another metaphor: the Line. He explains the rewards for those who reach the top of the Line, and the significance of those who fall short. He also tries to answer the important question, how does a city's ruler view politics and education, once he has reached true understanding? Plato's fantasy begins in Book VII, 514a, with a dismal view of humanity, told by Socrates. He describes a world in which people live in a cave from birth, never seeing any sign of daylight. They're heads are bound to the wall in such a way that they cannot look at either side of them, nor behind them. The people are ignorant of all their surroundings except for what is directly in front of them. Socrates goes on to describe a massive fire behind the people, and behind the fire, a partial wall. On top of the wall stand several statues of people, animals, and other various objects. Out of sight from the bounded prisoners are another group of people who manipulate the ... ... of the Line: Imagination, Belief, Thought, and Understanding. When he completes the Line, he becomes a philosopher-king, ruler over the city. The guardian then returns to the cave to help the others turn around and become educated. They perform this charity because they strive for the benefit of the city, rather than themselves. In contrast, the prisoners who refuse to become educated must not participate in politics, because their motives are set on benefiting themselves instead of the people as a whole. Through these points, Plato explains the views of the philosopher-king. The ruler views politics as a privilege meant only to be experienced by the educated, and he views education as the ultimate goal in life; to achieve understanding of the world around him. Through these ideals, Plato believes that his ruler will be able to properly lead his perfect Republic.

Toms Character in the Great Gatsby :: essays research papers

Tom Buchanan’s moral character can be quesitoned due to his dispicable and patheic nature when it comes to his actions throughout the novel. Even though he was born into a wealthy family and thus inherited the wealth he has in the novel, no signs of moral teachings by his family were evident. The actions he took in the book were due to him being a conceited and ignorant man. His ignorance was a result of the easy access he had to power and wealth. He feels that because he has wealth and power in society, he is given the acquiescence to be as arrogant and immoral as he so chooses and society cannot do anything about it. Because of this he looks down upon people that he feels are lower in the social and financial ladder. An example of this is when Nick is talking to tom about his accomplice in adultery and Nick says â€Å"Doesn’t her(Myrtle Wilson) husband object?† and Tom replies with â€Å"Wilson? He thinks she goes to see her sister in New York. He’s so dumb he doesn’t know he’s alive† (Gatsby 26). This indicates that Tom is very cocky and ignorant. Tom’s immoral acts in the novel stem from his overconfidence and ignorance due to his wealth and power. This is further proved by the fact that when his first and only child was born, he left Daisy without any support only one hour after the birth of their daughter. This is shown in the novel when Daisy says â€Å"Well she was less than an hour old and Tom was God knows where† (Gatsby 22). For most, the birth of a child would be a joyous occasion and a reason for celebration but as for Tom’s case, he had no love for Daisy at that time. If he had love for her, he would not commit a sin and perpetrate adultery with Myrtle Wilson. A man with strong morals would never commit the sin of betraying their spouse and then cause the other person to do the same in the process. Moreover, he uses his accomplice in the adultery as an object and has no care or consideration for her whatsoever. An example of this is an altercation between Myrtle and Tom : â€Å"Daisy! Daisy! Daisy!† shouted Mrs. Wilson. â€Å"I’ll say it whenever I want to! Daisy!

Blue Crabs :: essays research papers

The scientific name given to the blue crab was derived from Latin and Greek: Calli, beautiful; nectes, swimmer; and sapidus, savory. Thus, a literal transition might be the beautiful savory swimmer.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The blue crab is an important and interesting species. The blue crab is a species whose life history involves a complex cycle of planktonic, nektonic, and benthic stages which occur throughout the marine environment in a variety of habitats. The blue crab is one of the more abundant estuarine invertebrates and supports important commercial and recreational fisheries along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. The blue crab plays an important role in the marine food web, providing prey for many species and a predator on other species. The blue crab is a highly prized commodity to consumers.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Eight species of Callinectes have been documented in the Gulf of Mexico: C. bocourti, C. danae, C. ornatus, C. exasperatus, C. marginatus, C. similis and C. rathbunae, and Callinectes sapidus.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The original range of the blue crab is from Nova Scotia and throughout the Gulf of Mexico to northern Argentina. The blue crab is rarely found north of Cape Cod, but has been recorded in Maine and Nova Scotia. The blue crab has been introduced into Europe, North Africa, and Southwest Asia. Introductions into the Mediterranean Sea and surrounding waters have produced breeding populations whereas others were probably temporary occurrences. The blue crab also has been introduced into Japan.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Blue crabs are one of the most common marine invertebrates and are generally abundant throughout the oceans. Peak abundance of adult crabs occurs during the warmer months. During winter, crabs are found in areas of tidal exchange in the lower estuary. Juvenile blue crabs are most abundant in waters of low to intermediate salinity during the winter months.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Males become sexually mature at the 18 or 19th molt but may continue to grow and molt an additional 3-4 times thereafter. Female crabs were initially thought to rarely, if ever, molt again following their mature molt. However, mature females undergoing a second molt have been verified.

Post Civil War South Essay

After the war, the South was devastated and it was going to take a lot of money and a lot of rebuilding for it to be self-sufficient again. It financially and architecturally succeeded in reinventing itself and in the thirty five years following the war, Southern iron, steel and textile industries emerged, with Railroads leading the South’s industrial expansion. The Southern economy grew and prospered, although it could never quite compete with the North in innovations or wages. Now that there were almost 4 million freed slaves living in the South and a huge population of poor white people, there was plenty of cheap labor and business owners took full advantage of the fact. What kept the South from a strong Industrial development was the inability of the White men to work alongside the freed slaves. Attitudes toward the freed slaves had not changed and were getting progressively worse. Black Southerners were barred from working in industrial jobs and only a small percentage of White Southerners were employed in these jobs, therefore expansion could not take place. The South started on the right course and for a period of time it looked like the New South had risen but hatred towards the Black Southerners was the industrial development downfall with The South still strongly depending on agriculture as the economy stabilizer. Supposedly, the New South was based on rich natural resources, economic opportunity and increased racial equality, but after the North removed military control in the South in 1877, the Southern White Democrats went to work at changing their states constitutions and establishing legal barriers that kept the Black Southerners from voting. By 1913 new laws had been enacted, known as the Jim Crow laws, the made it unlawful for Black Southerners to comingle with White Southerners everywhere. Violence and Intimidation was the face of the New South now as Black Southerners and White Southerners competed for the same jobs. Lynching’s, beatings, false imprisonment and raping of the Black Southern women was all the freed slaves had to look forward to now, some of the same treatment many had to endure as slaves. Racial Segregation was fully embraced by the White Southerners and lthough the slaves had been freed, the South had completely failed in their quest for racial equality being a sign of the New South. http://www. civilwaracademy. com/reconstruction. html How did the culture of the Plains Indians, specifically the Lakota Sioux, change in the late 19th century? The Lakota Tribe first acquired horses in the 1700’s and it changed their way of life as they knew it. Over the next 200 years, they saw even more significant changes, but none of them good. Their original warfare between other tribes was never to acquire lands or control people but to obtain more horses, as the Lakota directly equated honor with the number of horses they had. Their warfare strategy changed as the white man encroached on their territory, threatened their buffalo and pushed them out of their lands. To them, their way of life was changing and the attitude became that of â€Å"kill or â€Å"be killed†, protecting family and possessions at any cost. Buffalo was a major source of food, shelter and material items that the Lakota relied heavily on to sustain them. As the White man encroached on the Lakota Territory, they felt that if they eradicated the Buffalo, the Lakota Tribe would be easier to manage and beat down. With the Government policy in the mid 1860’s being that of confining all Indians to reservations, the Establishment of the Great Sioux Reservation through the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty was proposed. This would drastically change their way of life and make them dependent upon the government to survive. The treaty proposed the following: * Set aside a 25 million acre tract of land for the Lakota and Dakota encompassing all the land in South Dakota west of the Missouri River, to be known as the Great Sioux Reservation; * Permit the Dakota and Lakota to hunt in areas of Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, and North Dakota until the buffalo were gone; * Provide for an agency, grist mill, and schools to be located on the Great Sioux Reservation; * Provide for land allotments to be made to individual Indians; and provide clothing, blankets, and rations of food to be distributed to all Dakotas and Lakota’s living within the bounds of the Great Sioux Reservation. The majority of the Lakota males did not sign this treaty and since the government did not keep their end of the bargain and broke treaty many times as it suited them, numerous battles were fought while they tried to keep their independence. Eventually the Lakota tried to live on the reservation and by the government’s guidelines, but without horses or guns, they could not hunt and the rations promised to them were either always late or didn’t show up at all. The Lakota were encouraged towards self-sufficiency by imposed farming, and the government did everything it could to â€Å"civilize† the Tribe by making them dress in American traditional clothing and outlawing their rituals and ceremonies.

Key Differences Between Nature And Nurture Theories Psychology Essay

Nature/Nurture I will be looking at the effects of Eminem’s life and relating it to nature or nurture. This debate has been around a long time. Gesell developed the maturation theory which is based on the nature side of the debate he believed that development was a result of maturation for example; learning to walk and puberty. Nature Nature refers to the characteristics we have due to our genetics and what biological traits we inherit. Physical similarities are usually inherited from your parents such as eye color and pigment of skin. This is due to nature. Certain illnesses can also be linked to nature such as breast cancer, this can be linked to family members. This will decrease the life expectancy of the person. It can also be said that we inherit our intellect for example, how intelligent and smart we are. It is said that if our parents are intelligent individuals we may too have the potential to be intelligent as this has been passed down in our genes. It is also the same as having a low IQ. We can also inherit personality traits due to nature, this can be either a calm and shy personality or an angry and violent one. It is thought that a child who has anger management issues or issues with violence may not always be acting as a result of growing up in that environment, this could be inherited through their genes passed down from one or both parents. Nurture Nurture refers to the environment that a person has grown up in. this is strongly linked to seeing your parents or other family members acting a certain way and copying it. It is said that children behave in a particular way as they have witnessed this going on around them. An example of this would be if they had grown up in violence they may learn this type of behavior and act upon it. They may not have grown up in a violent home but they may surround themselves with friends or a particular environment where violence is accepted and modeled. Maturation theory The maturation theory was first introduced by American Professor Dr. Arnold Gesell, the maturation theory refers to the physical and the mental growth of individuals, this growth is determined by Biology, genes, and the environment. Gesell declared that all children go through the same stages of development in the same sequence but each child will move through these stages at their own rate. Gesell believed that a child’s growth and development are influenced by both the environment that surrounds them and the person genes. He largely focused on the child’s physiological development. He called this process maturation which was mainly made up of and controlled by genes. According to Gesell, the rate that children develop is down to the growth of the child’s nervous system. As the nervous system grows, their minds develop and their behavior will change. Biological programming Biological programming is your genetics. Genes provide the instructions for structuring amino acids. Our body shape, size, behavior all depend on the interaction

Internet Advertising

What is internet ad? Internet advertising is a way of marketing services or products on the World Wide Web. This can be done through search engine optimization, banner ads, affiliate marketing, email marketing, SEM marketing and Web 2. 0 strategies. It is also known as Internet marketing, eMarketing, web marketing and online marketing. Internet advertising allows a product or service to quickly reach a global audience. A major advantage is that Internet advertising is usually far cheaper than advertising through more traditional means such as newspapers, radio or television. To better answer the question, â€Å"What is Internet advertising? †, we need to first look at all the ways which it can take place. +) Affiliate Marketing – This occurs when one website runs ads for another (usually larger) site. If a visitor to the site clicks on the ad, he’ll be taken to the other site to make a purchase. If a transaction occurs, the site hosting the ad (known as an affilia te) will receive a commission on the sale. This allows smaller sites to make money by associating with larger sites such as Netflix, AllPosters and Amazon. +) Lead-based Websites – Sales leads are generated from a company’s website. The company then follows up (usually via phone) in order to make a sale. +) E-commerce – The direct sale of goods to a consumer. Amazon would be an example of an online company that employs the e-commerce method. +) Publishing – A website sells advertising space, much in the same way that a newspaper or magazine would do so. Geo Marketing Internet advertising has advanced so far that online businesses can even designate ads to appear based on the user’s state, city, zip code or IP address. This is known as geo marketing (or geo targeting). In the distant future, one has to wonder if this form of marketing won’t be tailored specifically to the person logging on to the Internet. In some ways, this is already a realit y, as many advertisements are designed to appear based on the keywords entered by the user into a search engine. Specific Clientele So what is Internet advertising? and how does internet advertising work? Well, besides allowing a company to specifically target a user based on search engine phrases and geographical location, Internet advertising can also allow a business to focus on a specific clientele. For example, let’s ay you own a company which sells tents. If you run a print or television advertisement, your message will be viewed by many people who have no interest in your product. With the Internet, however, you can place ads on sites specifically geared towards your potential clients. Sites involving camping or the outdoors allow you to directly target those who might need to buy a tent. While it doesn’t guarantee a sale, Internet advertising does allow you to narrow your focus and get the most for your advertising dollar. Continued Growth Internet advertising can be tracked and tested in ways unavailable to regular methods of advertising. This allows the advertiser to immediately know what works and what doesn’t. For this reason, Internet advertising is the faster growing form of marketing. Disadvantage of Internet Marketing Many consumers like to be able to physically touch or see a product before they buy it. Others may have a dial-up connection and be unable to view all available advertising. Both of these are disadvantages of Internet marketing, although they will most likely disappear in the coming decades. Security is also a concern for many consumers. Everyone has heard horror stories about people having their identities stolen after making a purchase on the Internet. While most of these stories are exaggerated, all major Internet businesses have responded by installing state-of-the-art encryption systems to protect sensitive customer information. Summary of Internet Advertising What is Internet advertising? It’s a way for retailers to advertise products and services online. Ads can target people with particular hobbies or interests, or they can even focus on customers in a specific country or state. The success of an Internet advertising campaign is easier to track, and numerous methods are available to businesses.
